Klezmer Kapelye (suitable for orchestra, string orchestra, band, jazz band and small ensembles)
Utilizing school ensembles and/or forming special ensembles for the workshop day(s), Strauss and Warschauer introduce the musicians to klezmer music. Participants will learn to play together in a real "klezmer style," using some written music, but also learning by ear. This workshop can be geared to all ages and abilities. Fidl Kapelye (suitable for violins, violas, 'cellos and basses)
The Fidl Kapelye, (string band) is an exciting way for string players to experience an authentic old-world Yiddish musical group. Using some written music, but especially learning by ear, participants are immediately immersed in the style and performance practice of nineteenth-century klezmorim (Yiddish musicians). This workshop can be geared to all ages and abilities. Mandolin Orchestra (suitable for mandolin, guitar and other plucked strings, intermediate level and higher)
Workshop participants will explore both the repertoire of the traditional Jewish mandolin orchestra as well as repertoire from the klezmer and Hasidic traditions arranged for mandolin orchestra. This workshop has long been a favorite of both participants and listeners! Instrumental Master Class |
