A Yiddish Shabbaton
Celebrate Shabbat (Shabbos) and the world of Yiddish music, language and culture with the Strauss/Warschauer Duo. Whether experienced as a Friday night service, Shabbat day, or for the entire weekend, "A Yiddish Shabbaton" enhances the spirit and sheer joy of Shabbat, and is suitable for a wide range of communities, with programs geared toward every age group.

"A Yiddish Shabbaton" with Deborah Strauss and Jeff Warschauer is an unforgettable event. Imagine infusing the Friday night service with klezmer melodies and Yiddish songs, and dancing with a real Yiddish flavor during an Oneg Shabbat.

Shabbat afternoon can include lectures about Yiddish music and culture, dance workshops, and song sessions of Hasidic nigunim, Yiddish Shabbos songs, and zmiros. Havdalah and a Strauss/Warschauer Duo concert cap-off a one-of-a-kind Shabbat and usher in the new week with music.

In addition, Deborah and Jeff, who are among the leading teachers of this genre of music, can work in advance with your choir and/or instrumental ensemble, preparing them to participate in the "Yiddish Shabbaton", and giving them a first-hand, instant experience of Yiddish and klezmer music. No previous knowledge is required.

The Song Within (suitable for singers and instrumentalists, intermediate level and higher)
This ensemble explores the integral relationship between words and melody and between the song and instrumental traditions in Yiddish music. Participants will learn melodies from the klezmer instrumental tradition, as well as some of the texts in Yiddish and/or Loshn-Koydesh (Rabbinical Hebrew-Aramaic) that are associated with these melodies.
